Anaphalis margaritacea

Discover the gentle resilience of Pearly Everlasting (Anaphalis margaritacea)—a beloved Pacific Northwest wildflower traditionally used to support the lungs, soothe inflammation, and calm irritated tissues. In this blog, learn how to identify this silvery, soft plant along forest edges and meadows, how to harvest it ethically, and the unique cooling, drying energetics that make it a beautiful ally for lingering coughs, sinus congestion, and seasonal transitions. Explore traditional uses, herbal preparations, and simple ways to welcome Pearly Everlasting into your teas and wellness rituals.

Habitat & Growth Pattern

Pearly Everlasting is hardy and resilient, thriving in sunny meadows, along forest edges, and in sandy, well-drained soils. I often come across wide swaths of Pearly Everlasting when picking wild Blueberries in the forest slashes.

Harvesting

Pearly Everlasting is considered a weed so feel free to readily harvest this one! Important to know is that Pearly spreads by rhizome so when harvesting collect the flowering tops and greens only and make sure to leave some behind for the butterflies and insects that rely on this food.
